This post is prompted by me seeing someone on Facebook this morning say that their website isn’t working…..
It is fairly obvious that if your website doesn’t look good enough to attract your target market, it’s simply not worth having. A good looking well designed website is not enough though. You MUST have a sound marketing strategy in place or any website isn’t worth you spending any money on.
When I say a ‘marketing strategy’, I don’t mean putting some posts out on Facebook and writing a few blog post and then thinking that’s all you have to do. It isn’t! It’s far more than that. For a start, who are you targeting? Do you know? If you don’t you’re in trouble already.
Before you attempt to market your business, find out who your customers are. What do they really want? Where are they? Knowing where they are will help you to decide where you should be advertising your business. Are they on Facebook? Twitter? LinkedIn? Or are they down the golf club? Tennis club, football club?
Once you know where your target audience hangs out, you might have half a chance of engaging with them in a way that would appeal to them. Notice I don’t say ‘sell to them’. That’s the last thing you should do. In the modern world, business is about building relationships. Not selling to people.
When you’ve got a marketing strategy in place and some goals are set. EVALUATE THE RESULTS. If you don’t, how will you know what’s working? In the digital age, testing is easy! You can easily find what engagement you are getting for your Facebook posts. Google AdWords is extremely easy to evaluate what’s working and what’s not.
This post is possibly a bit of a rant. I’m not apologising for that. I want to help and if this stings a bit then good.
